10 THINGS ABOUT DOROTHY THOMPSON

1. I was named Dorothy after my grandmother and hated the name until I became an author. Dotti was what they called me as a child and I cringed at it as I got older, so back to Dorothy!

2. I am a natural blonde but since getting older I've had to improvise the same effect from external sources of which shall remain nameless.

3. I was serenaded by Eddie Fontaine with a guitar sitting in his lap at his glorious home in Burbank. Beet red cheeks takes on new meaning.

4. I can't swim. I almost drowned twice. Once at Long Beach, California, when my mother took me way out in the water and told me to walk back. A gigantic wave washed over me and I finally made it back gasping for air. The second time I was in a neighbor's pool and water filled my goggles. Down I went. I had to walk the length of the pool under water to save myself.

5. Did I tell you I used to live in Burbank, California, as a kid? They say it's not the same now but I would love to go back.

6. I refinish furniture. Not for a living yet, but having fun decorating my townhouse!

7. I'm an army kid.

8. My first boyfriend was named Bruce. He would choose me as his dance partner every time when we had dance class at school. I was seven.

9. I have a high intolerance for flies.

10. My first television appearance was on a show that featured Santa Clause talking to different kids with me being one of them. So here it went:

Santa: And what do you want for Christmas?

Me: A doll baby.

Santa: What kind of doll baby would you like?

Me: A doll baby.

Santa (chuckling): I know but which one would you like?

Me: A doll baby.

A kid with many words. He put me down and I raced off the stage, tripped on a cable and down I went. Mortified.

And a little more...

Hi there! Nice to see you here! I was born in a little town on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Was so close to the railroad track; it was literally in my back yard. We lived with my grandmother and my aunts, as my father had walked out on my mother and I just after I was born. That's the last I saw of him but I had a long lost cousin find me on the Internet and sent me a picture of him - the only picture I have. I never got a chance to meet him but I could see the strong resemblance in the picture. My mother remarried - an Army dude - and we moved to Fort Ord, California. Tired of life on the base, we moved to an apartment then a house in Burbank. After just three short years, my aunt took my sister and I back to the Shore to live with my grandmother. Life was chaotic, but my grandmother was a God-fearing woman who tried her best to take care of my sister and I. I married at the ripe old age of nineteen, had two wonderful children, but that marriage went bust. It was about then when I had a Jesus moment and decided to take all the stories in my head and start putting them to paper. My first book was a children's book which made kids end up in the hospital. No joke. The ink made them sick. My second and third books were published by a small press but they went bankrupt and we lost all royalties. My fourth book, Romancing the Soul, was published by a small press whose editor believed in my message. I had turned an agent down because she wanted to eliminate the stories that weren't the typical boy girl relationship (guess she didn't like the cat story or the ghost story). I think because of my upbringing, I am a self-made trooper. I don't stop. I look for the next adventure and am continuing my quest for new adventures....
